Why The Kelpies works
The Kelpies are eight minutes from my studio. For elopements, vow renewals, or small ceremonies looking for a backdrop nobody else has, the Helix Park lawn and the canal beside the sculptures are the strongest landscape frame in central Scotland. Free to access, photograph-friendly all year round.
The shooting advantage
Falkirk is finally a wedding destination, and the Kelpies are the reason. Couples flying into Edinburgh for an elopement should be looking here, not at another castle hotel they can't afford.
Light & timing notes
Best light: blue hour (the sculptures' LED uplighting fires up at dusk), or first light on a clear winter morning when the canal mirrors both heads back at you.
A real wedding here
A January elopement at the Kelpies — six guests, ceremony at the Helix visitor centre, portraits at the sculptures at 3.45pm with low winter sun hitting the steel. We were home by 5. The couple has the wide blue-hour frame printed at six feet across their hallway.

Can you get married at the Kelpies?
Yes — Falkirk Council licenses the Helix visitor centre and the lawn beside the sculptures for ceremonies. The Kelpies themselves are the photo location, not the ceremony spot.
Do you need a permit to photograph the Kelpies?
No permit for editorial wedding photography. Commercial campaigns require a paid permit through Scottish Canals.
What's the best season for Kelpies wedding photos?
Honestly, winter — the low sun catches the steel scales, the crowds are gone, and the blue-hour LED lighting is at its strongest from 4pm.
