Why Prestonfield House works
Prestonfield is a working set. Every room is a frame: the Rhubarb dining room, the walled garden, the stable courtyard, the peacocks on the lawn at sunset. It's the only Edinburgh venue where you can shoot a full editorial wedding without ever leaving the grounds.
The shooting advantage
Most country-house venues photograph the same: a lawn, a hallway, a fireplace. Prestonfield gives you twelve distinct visual environments inside one estate, and every one of them is lit for atmosphere rather than function.
Light & timing notes
Best light: late-afternoon golden hour on the south lawn (peacocks come out around 5.30pm in summer), candlelit interiors after 7pm, fire-pit portraits at full dark.
A real wedding here
An August wedding ran the ceremony in the walled garden at 4pm, drinks under the wisteria, dinner in Rhubarb, and the final frame at midnight by the fire-pit with the bride still in her dress. We delivered 612 images. The fire-pit shot is the one they printed.

Can the ceremony be outdoors at Prestonfield?
Yes — the walled garden has a permanent ceremony licence. I always plan a wet-weather backup inside the Yellow Room so the schedule doesn't move.
Are the peacocks reliable for photos?
Usually. They show up around 5.30pm for the grounds. I never promise them, but I plan the portrait walk to give them a chance.
Is there room for a second shooter?
Yes — Prestonfield is the venue I most often recommend a second shooter for, because there are simply too many simultaneous frames to cover solo.
