New Town Photographer (EH2, EH3)
Ross Nixon Photography provides editorial wedding, brand, and commercial photography across Edinburgh’s New Town. Ross delivers professional, clean imagery for clients around George Street, Queen Street, and the Stockbridge border.
The New Town is a specific environment for photography. It lacks the cramped, dark lanes of the Old Town, offering instead a sense of scale and clean architectural lines that suit editorial work perfectly. Whether you are running a brand on George Street or planning a wedding at a venue like The Royal College of Physicians, the light here behaves differently. The wide streets and Georgian facades provide a neutral, high-end backdrop that does not distract from the subject. My work in this area focuses on clarity and composition, using the natural light that floods the grid system. I avoid the typical tourist spots to find quiet corners on streets like Heriot Row and Abercromby Place where the architecture does the heavy lifting.

Questions people ask
- Do you offer headshots for firms on Queen Street?
- Yes. I regularly visit offices in the New Town to provide professional headshots for staff. I can set up a portable studio in your boardroom or use the natural architectural features of your building as a backdrop. This service is efficient, minimising disruption to your workday while ensuring everyone in the firm has a consistent, high-quality professional image for LinkedIn and company websites.
- Can we take wedding photos in the private New Town gardens?
- Access to private gardens like Queen Street Gardens or Moray Place Gardens is usually restricted to residents and key holders. If your venue has an arrangement or you live in the area, we can certainly use them. If not, I know several public spots in the New Town that offer the same Georgian aesthetic and greenery without the need for a private key.
- How long does it take to receive the final photos?
- For headshots and small brand shoots, you will usually receive your edited gallery within 48 to 72 hours. For weddings and larger commercial projects, the turnaround is typically two to three weeks. I prioritise quality over speed, but I understand the need for a fast delivery in a professional environment and always aim to beat my own deadlines.
- What happens if the weather is bad on the day of an outdoor shoot?
- If we are scheduled for an outdoor brand or headshot session and the weather is unworkable, we can move the shoot to an indoor location with sufficient light or reschedule for the next available window. The New Town has many covered doorways and colonnades that provide shelter from the rain while still allowing for natural light photography.
- Are travel costs included for New Town locations?
- Yes. Since I am based in Edinburgh, there are no travel fees for any photography work within the New Town, including the EH2 and EH3 postcodes. The price I quote for the session is the final price you pay, covering my time, the shoot itself, and the post-production work required to deliver your final images.
