How long until I receive my wedding photos?

Ross Nixon Photography typically delivers full wedding galleries within four to six weeks. A preview selection is provided within 48 hours to ensure you have high-quality images to share immediately.

The standard delivery time for a full wedding gallery from Ross Nixon Photography is four to six weeks. This timeframe ensures every image undergoes professional colour correction, exposure adjustment, and individual cropping to meet editorial standards. During peak Scottish wedding season, which runs from May to September, I maintain this schedule by managing my post-production workflow daily. I provide a 'sneak peek' gallery of twenty to thirty images within 48 hours of the wedding. These are high-resolution files suitable for social media or printing. The final delivery is via a private, password-protected online gallery where you can download high-resolution files for printing and web-sized versions for digital use. This process is structured to guarantee quality over speed.

What's included

The final delivery includes between 400 and 600 professionally edited images for a full-day booking. Every photograph is processed personally by me in my Edinburgh studio; I do not outsource editing to third-party labs or use automated AI batch processing that ignores the nuances of Scottish lighting. The delivery includes a full usage licence for personal printing and social sharing. You receive two versions of the gallery: high-resolution JPEGs produced at 300dpi for physical albums and large-scale prints, and web-optimised files for fast loading on mobile devices. The online gallery remains active for twelve months, allowing ample time for family and friends to view and download their favourite shots. There are no watermarks on your images, and I provide a print shop integration within the gallery if you prefer to order professional-grade lustre or fine art prints directly from a verified UK lab. This ensures the colour accuracy of the final physical product matches the digital file I delivered.

How it works

The timeline begins the moment the wedding ends. On the night of the event, all memory cards are backed up to two separate physical drives and a cloud-based server to ensure data redundancy. Within 48 hours, I select and edit the preview set. Over the following month, I review every frame captured, removing duplicates, blinks, or technical mishaps. Each chosen image is then adjusted for skin tones, contrast, and white balance—this is particularly important for Scottish weddings where lighting shifts rapidly from bright sun to overcast sky. Once the set is cohesive, the images are uploaded to the hosting platform. You receive an email with a secure link and a personal PIN for downloading the collection. This systematic approach prevents backlogs and ensures that even in the height of August, your photos are not sitting on a hard drive longer than six weeks.

Local detail

Photographing weddings in Edinburgh and across the Lothians presents specific technical challenges that dictate the editing process. Whether handling the high-contrast stone of the Old Town, the specific coastal light at Archerfield House, or the atmospheric dimness of a vault in the Cowgate, the post-production phase is where the technical work is finished. I spend significant time balancing the natural grey tones of Edinburgh’s architecture against the skin tones of the wedding party to ensure a clean, editorial look. My workflow is calibrated for the specific palette of the Scottish landscape—the greens of the Highlands and the muted blues of the Firth of Forth. I do not apply heavy, trendy filters that will look dated in five years; I aim for a timeless, true-to-life aesthetic. Being based locally means I am familiar with the interior lighting of major venues like The Balmoral, Signet Library, and Mansfield Traquair, which allows for a more efficient and accurate editing process than a photographer unfamiliar with these specific environments.

Questions people ask

Why does it take six weeks to get my photos?
Professional editing involves more than just bulk applying a filter. I review every single image captured on the day, selecting the best frames and manually adjusting them for exposure, colour balance, and composition. This level of attention ensures your gallery is consistent and of a professional editorial standard. Managing this alongside shooting other events requires a structured four to six-week window during the busy summer months.
Do you offer an express delivery service?
I prioritise quality and a fair queue for all clients. While I do not offer a paid 'fast-track' service, I do provide a selection of 20-30 preview images within 48 hours. This usually satisfies the immediate need for social media posts and thank-you notes while I take the necessary time to carefully process the remaining hundreds of images in your full gallery.
Can I have the unedited RAW files?
I do not provide RAW files. The editing process is fifty per cent of the photographic work and is essential to my style and professional reputation. Delivering unfinished files would be equivalent to a chef serving raw ingredients. You receive the finished, high-resolution JPEG files which are the intended final product, fully processed and ready for printing or display.
What happens if I lose my wedding photo link?
Your gallery remains live for at least one year. I suggest downloading the full gallery to a computer and backing it up to a secondary drive or cloud service immediately upon receipt. However, I maintain an archive of all final galleries on my own secure server for three years. If you lose your files within that period, contact me and I will resend the access link.
Will my photos be watermarked?
No. The final images delivered in your online gallery are high-resolution files without any watermarks or branding. You have paid for the photography and have the right to print and share the images for personal use without my logo obscuring the pictures. I only ask for a credit if the images are used in a commercial capacity or by other wedding vendors.
