What is typically included in a Scottish wedding photography package?

A standard wedding package from Ross Nixon Photography includes full-day coverage, high-resolution digital files, and an online gallery. Most professional Scottish photographers also include travel within the central belt and a pre-wedding consultation.

When you book a wedding photographer in Scotland, you are paying for more than a person with a camera. You are securing a professional service that handles your logistics, file security, and final image production. Most couples in Edinburgh and Glasgow look for a comprehensive package that covers everything from morning preparations through to the first few dances. I keep my own approach simple: you get my time, my technical expertise, and a set of finished files that are ready to print. There is no gatekeeping of images or hidden fees for basic travel. Whether your wedding is in a dedicated venue like The Balmoral or a private space, the package should provide clear value and no stress.

What's included

In my standard wedding package, I provide full-day coverage as the primary photographer. This starts with the morning preparations and ends shortly after the first dance. You receive a minimum of 400 high-resolution images, though the final count is often significantly higher depending on the scale of the event. These images are delivered via a secure, password-protected online gallery which allows you to download files and share them with family. I also include a licensing agreement that gives you the right to print and share the photos for personal use. Post-production is a major part of the package; every image is individually edited for colour, contrast, and exposure to ensure a consistent look. I do not provide raw, unedited files. Additionally, I include a pre-wedding consultation, either in person in Edinburgh or via video call, to go over your timeline and specific shot requirements. This ensures that on the day, I can work efficiently without needing to ask you questions while you are trying to enjoy yourself.

How it works

The process begins with a booking fee to secure your date in my calendar. Once the date is set, we carry out a consultation to discuss the logistics of your venue. On the wedding day, I work in a documentary style, capturing events as they happen with minimal interference. I do not spend hours posing people; I focus on the real interactions. After the wedding, the editing process takes between four to six weeks during peak season. You will receive a 'sneak peek' selection of images within a few days of the wedding so you have something to share immediately. The final gallery is then uploaded and sent to you. From there, you can order professional-grade prints or albums directly through the gallery interface if you choose, though there is no obligation to do so. The aim is a straightforward, professional workflow from the first email to the final delivery.

Local detail

Based in Edinburgh, I am positioned to reach most major Scottish venues within a short drive. For weddings in the city centre, like those at The Hub on the Royal Mile or Timberyard in the EH1 and EH3 postcodes, travel is entirely included. I am frequently out at venues such as Dundas Castle or Archerfield House, which are roughly 30 to 45 minutes from the city bypass. If your wedding is further afield—perhaps up towards Fife or down in the Borders—I calculate travel based on standard mileage. For example, getting to a venue in St Andrews usually takes about 90 minutes from my base, while a trip to the west end of Glasgow is roughly an hour via the M8. I know these routes and the local lighting conditions well. I always arrive early to scout the location, even if I have worked there before, as Scottish weather dictates a need for back-up plans and a solid understanding of indoor light at venues like the Signet Library or Mansfield Traquair.

Questions people ask

Do you offer partial day coverage?
While my main package is for full-day coverage, I do offer shorter options for elopements and smaller mid-week ceremonies. Elopement pricing starts from £395. For weekend dates during the peak summer season, I generally prioritise full-day bookings to ensure the entire story of the wedding is captured from start to finish.
How many photos will I receive?
For a full day of wedding photography, you can expect at least 400 edited images. There is no upper limit; if the day is packed with action, you will get more. The goal is to provide a complete narrative of the day without including repetitive shots or technical outtakes.
Is a second photographer included?
A second photographer is not included in the base package but can be added for an additional fee. This is useful for very large weddings or if you want simultaneous coverage of both parties getting ready in different locations. For most weddings under 100 guests, I find that I can cover everything effectively solo.
Do you charge extra for travel within Scotland?
Travel within the central belt and a reasonable radius of Edinburgh is included in the package price. For weddings in the Highlands, Islands, or deep into the South West, I charge a modest fee to cover fuel and, if necessary, one night of basic accommodation to ensure I am on-site and ready on time.
Are wedding albums included in the price?
Albums are not included in the initial package price. I prefer to let couples see their final digital images before deciding on an album. This keeps the upfront cost lower and allows you to choose the specific photos, cover materials, and size of the album at a later date.
