How long does a brand photography shoot take?
A standard brand photography shoot with Ross Nixon Photography typically lasts between four and eight hours. Half-day sessions provide core assets while full-day shoots allow for multiple locations and extensive content libraries.
A professional brand photography shoot typically requires a minimum of four hours for a half-day session or eight hours for a full-day booking. This duration ensures enough time to capture a variety of setups including environmental portraits, detail shots, and behind-the-scenes action without feeling rushed. For small businesses or solopreneurs needing a quick update, a two-hour mini-session might suffice, but most comprehensive brand refreshes demand at least half a day. The total time depends entirely on the volume of deliverables required, the number of locations involved, and how many different looks or outfits need to be documented to keep your marketing materials fresh for the coming months.

Questions people ask
- Can I book a brand shoot for just one hour?
- I generally do not offer one-hour brand shoots as they do not provide enough time to settle into the session and capture a meaningful variety of content. The minimum recommended time is two hours for a basic refresh. Most businesses find that a four-hour half-day session provides the best return on investment by covering all necessary marketing angles.
- Does the shoot duration include travel between locations?
- Yes, if your brand shoot requires multiple locations, the travel time between them is included within the booked hours. To maximise our shooting time, I recommend choosing locations that are within close proximity, such as a studio in Leith and a nearby cafe or outdoor space. We plan the logistics during the pre-shoot consultation.
- How many outfits can I change into during a half-day shoot?
- For a four-hour half-day shoot, I typically recommend three to four outfit changes. This provides enough visual variety to make the images look like they were taken on different days without spending too much of our session time in a changing room. A full-day shoot can accommodate six or more different looks comfortably.
- What happens if we go over the scheduled time?
- I build a buffer into our schedule to ensure we are not rushing the final shots. If the project scope expands on the day and you require additional time, this can usually be accommodated at an hourly rate, provided I do not have another commitment immediately following. However, a well-planned shot list usually keeps us exactly on track.
- How long does it take to get the photos after the shoot?
- The turnaround time for a brand photography gallery is typically 7 to 14 days. This allows for careful selection and professional editing of your images. If you have an urgent deadline for a press release or website launch, please let me know in advance and I can often provide a few 'hero' shots within 24 hours.
